Seagate 3TB Hard Drive Confirmed for a Release Later This Year

After a couple of weeks of rumors, Seagate apparently wanted to clear the air. And so, Seagate’s Senior Product Manager Barbara Craig has finally confirmed that Seagate is, indeed, working on releasing a 3TB hard drive later this year. But, it’s not all going as smoothly as Seagate planned, as they’ve run into a few obstacles. Transcend Introduces StoreJet 35T External HDD

Transcend has introduced the new addition to its StoreJet external hard drive series. Known as the StoreJet 35T, this compact 3.5-inch drive is available in 1TB and 1.5TB storage capacities and features a USB 2.0 connection interface, a OneTouch auto-backup button and makes use of Transcend’s TurboHDD USB technology for enhanced transfer speeds. In addition, the drive also comes bundled with StoreJet Elite software that offers advanced 256-bit AES file and folder encryption. I-O Data HDJ-UT USB 3.0 External HDD

I-O Data has rolled out its new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 external HDD, the HDJ-UT. Measuring 46mm x 223mm x 155mm and weighing 1.6kg, the drive is available in either 1TB or 1.5TB capacity and provides transfer speeds of up to 5Gbps (USB 3.0) or 480Mbps (USB 2.0). The 1TB (HDJ-UT1.0) and 1.5TB (HDJ-UT1.5) are now available in Japan for 21,000 Yen (about $231) and 25,300 Yen (about $279), respectively.

Clickfree C2 Portable Hard Drive

Clickfree has recently launched the Clickfree C2 portable hard drive, which comes with a range of file sharing, backup and storage features. The device also comes with migration, encryption and backup software as well as an iPod Music and Playlist Import feature which makes it easy to import music and videos into iTunes. Century’s Latest Ikkoichi 2.5-inch HDD Enclosure

Century has finally released the latest version of Ikkoichi 2.5-inch HDD enclosure. FYI, the first generation of this hard drive enclosure comes with two FireWire 400 ports but only supports IDE HDDs. The new model features one USB 2.0 port and two FireWire 400 ports and support of SATA 2.5-inch HDDs. If you are interested, you can purchase the Ikkoichi HDD Enclosure for 5,600 Yen ($62).

A-DATA SH93 Waterproof & Shock Resistant Portable HDD

A-DATA has announced its new waterproof and shock resistant portable HDD ‘SH93′ for the mass market. Coming in 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 640GB capacities, these external HDDs feature a molded rubber-plastic case and special cushion materials making them both waterproof and shock resistant. In addition, these drives also meet the military’s MIL-STD-810F standard for drop resistance and can withstand being submerged in one meter of water for half an hour. Sadly, there’s no word on pricing and availability yet.

Buffalo DriveStation HD-HXU3 USB 3.0 External HDD

Buffalo has just announced its new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 external HDD, the DriveStation HD-HXU3. Coming in a slick, black glossy design, the drive is available in either 1.0TB, 1.5TB or 2.0TB capacity and provides transfer speeds of up to 125MB/s. The drive is also backwards-compatible and will work seamlessly with USB 2.0-enabled computers, notebooks and netbooks. Freecom XS 3.0 – World’s First USB 3.0 HDD

Touted as the world’s first USB 3.0 HDD, Freecom’s newly announced XS 3.0 adopts SuperSpeed technology to provide users with very high data transfer rates. Coming in 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB capacities, these compact 3.5-inch external HDDs offer transfer speeds of approximately 130 MB/s enabling users to back up and upload information in a matter of seconds. In addition, these HDDs also support backward-compatibility and work with all USB 2.0 enabled computers and notebooks. OWC 750GB Mercury On-The-Go Pro

Other World Computing (OWC) has updated its Mercury On-The-Go lineup with the 750GB model. The new model spins at 5200RPMs and boasts a 8MB of cache. The FireWire models use Oxford chipsets, while the USB 2.0-only model sports a JMicron bridge chipset. The OWC Mercury On-The-Go Pro 750GB 5200RPM triple interface FireWire 800/400 & USB 2.0 model retails for $270, while the FireWire 400/USB 2.0 model is $250 and the USB 2.0-only model sells for $230. World’s First 2TB 7200RPM HDD From Hitachi

Hitachi has finally launched the world’s first 7200RPM 2TB hard drive for the mass market. The 2TB Deskstar 7K2000 combines high performance and high capacity with low power and other eco-friendly features designed to enable Energy-Star rated computers and other high performance desktop systems. Samsung Announces New High-Density Spinpoint F3 HDD Line-Up

Samsung has announced a new line-up of high-density hard drives ‘Spinpoint F3′ which are aimed at high-end computing environments. Coming in 500GB and 1TB capacities, these new 3.5-inch drives work at 7200RPM and feature a 3.0 Gbps SATA interface, Native Command Queuing (NCQ), a 16MB/32MB buffer memory, and make use of 500GB platters.
