Point Grey has demonstrated a new webcam using USB 3.0 that streams uncompressed video in 1080p at 60fps. They have created a video demonstration of their prototype webcam, which was made up of a few components from other companies (Sony IMX036 CMOS image sensor). Due to the speed of USB 3.0, the webcam is capable of streaming and displaying its 1920×1080 video without compression, which creates an extremely sharp image quality. Sadly, you have to run it via PCI-Express-to-USB-3.0 card, because the USB 3.0 isn’t exactly widely available. Point Grey will release this USB 3.0 webcam either very late 2009 or early 2010. Video after the jump.
